Shem Rajoon, Creative Evolution

I am originally from Trinidad and Tobago and am one of 13 siblings, I was raised by my mother to have a positive outlook on life and to cherish family. I moved to the United States in 1995, and a year later I met Richard Calton, founder of HarlemLIVE. HarlemLIVE is internet publication lead by teens throughout New York City. I was captivated by the organization and how it was completely run by kids my age.

Throughout my 12 years at HarlemLIVE I was like a sponge absorbing all the new and exciting information around me. I fully engulfed myself in every aspect of running an online news magazine and because of this I have years of experience as a Photographer, Videographer and Web Designer. HarlemLIVE gave me a space to be creative an allowed me to grow a passion for design.

It first started with photography, after much exploration I gained an eye for capturing the right shot. I later took my photography further and started altering my work with creative apps like Photoshop and Illustrator. In time I found myself, learning HTML and exploring the realm of typography. At the time I didn't know that these were some of the fundamental tools that would prepare me for the field of web design. Along with my existing knowledge obtained at HarlemLIVE, I started doing research, reading books and online tutorials until I was conformable in programs like Flash, Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Illustrator.

Today, I fuel my passion for design by always reading to keep up to date with the latest design trends and technologies. Overall, I just like having fun and exploring new and creative ways of getting my point across. Design is what I'm most passionate about and I hope to one day inspire others through my work.
